Maximilian Pohl, former Ph.D.-student at the chair of Operations Management, jointly with Christian Artigues from the research center LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse, France, and Rainer Kolisch developed a new approach for efficient runway scheduling during winter times. Using a time discrete mixed-integer program, runway capacity is assigned to take-offs and landings as well as winter operations to keep the runway safe, optimizing the punctuality of flights. Using constraint propagation and column generation, large planning problems of major hub airports can be solved. The paper is published in the European Journal of Operational Research https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0377221721007189
