We were delighted to welcome Prof. Flore Sentenac (HEC Paris) to TUM this week for her guest lecture in the AdONE Seminar Series — kindly invited and hosted by Prof. Maximilian Schiffer as part of an ongoing academic exchange.
On Monday, May 12, Prof. Sentenac presented her latest research on “Balancing Optimism and Pessimism in Offline-to-Online Learning”, where she explored the strategic trade-offs between Upper and Lower Confidence Bound algorithms in the context of Click-Through-Rate (CTR) prediction. The talk delved into how decision-makers should adapt their strategies over time to optimize both short- and long-term performance, highlighting a novel algorithm that dynamically balances the strengths of both UCB and LCB.
Prof. Sentenac, currently an Assistant Professor at HEC Paris, specializes in online learning and algorithm design, with a focus on digital advertising. Her visit sparked valuable discussion and engagement among the TUM operations research community.
Thank you, Prof. Sentenac, for your compelling presentation and enriching exchange!
