Further Information
The OSCM department offers a wide variety of courses in operations and supply chain management. The spectrum ranges from theoretical foundations to industry-specific challenges. Most of our courses require basic knowledge in quantitative operations management methodologies. Students who do not yet have a solid background in modelling, optimization, and simulation (in practice: students who did not do a TUM-BWL bachelor with OSCM major), are required to participate in a class in advanced modelling, optimization and simulation.
For the OSCM major, we require every master student to complete exactly one seminar (no more, no less). The seminars offer the opportunity to accomplish small research projects, which makes attendance an important preparation for master’s thesis work. The ideal time to participate in a seminar is therefore shortly before the start of the master’s thesis.
Students are not admitted to attend seminars before their second master semester. This ensures they have sufficient methodological background for successful participation. In addition, they are required to have experience in mathematical modelling and simulation, for instance by successful participation in the course 'Modelling, Optimization, and Simulation’, the course 'Advanced Modelling, Optimization, and Simulation’, or an equivalent class. If you have not attended attend any of these classes, please describe in your seminar application your experience with the development and implementation of mathematical models and simulations.
Please use the seminar registration tool of the school on seminars.wi.tum.de if you are interested in participation. You will need to fill in studies-related information and your priorities regarding the seminars, as well as upload your grade sheet and your CV. Seminars are assigned according to your stated preferences, provided that you fulfil the prerequisites. Please note that we do not follow a first-come-first-serve principle and bear in mind the registration deadlines for each semester. The final seminar assignment will be made available in the central seminar tool.
