Project Management und Scheduling
Through projects, companies reorganize structures and processes and develop new products. In a dynamic economic environment, the successful execution of projects is therefore essential for business success. At the Chair of Operations Management, questions related to planning in project management are addressed using quantitative methods from Operations Research.
Current research topics include:
- Project evaluation
- Project portfolio planning
- Project scheduling
- Resource management
- Scheduling of complex processes
The Chair collaborates on these topics with various industry partners, including:
- Infineon Technologies AG
- Campana & Schott Realisierungsmanagement GmbH
- BMW AG
- IAV GmbH
Scheduling and planning are, on one hand, sub-disciplines of operational project management. At the same time, models and methods developed for project scheduling—such as the Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem—are applied to optimize complex scheduling and process planning challenges in both industry and services. Examples include:
- Appointment scheduling for elective patients in hospitals
- Baggage process planning at airports
- Scheduling of medical specialist training programs in hospitals
- Optimization of anesthesia processes
The Chair also works on these topics with practice partners including:
- Munich Airport
- Klinikum rechts der Isar
