Short Bio
Andreas S. Schulz heads the Chair of Operations Research at TUM, which he established in 2015 with support from an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Mathematics at TUM’s School of Computation, Information and Technology, as well as in the Operations & Technology Department of TUM’s School of Management. In addition, he is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Study (TUM-IAS) and a Research Affiliate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he served as a faculty member for almost 20 years. He has held visiting positions at the University of British Columbia, Maastricht University, ETH Zurich, and TU Berlin. In 2010, he received the Humboldt Research Award recognizing his lifetime achievements in research. In the year 2000, the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities named him one of 20 founding members of "Die Junge Akademie." He has been on the editorial boards of several scientific journals, including ACM Transactions on Algorithms, Discrete Optimization, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Journal of Scheduling, and the INFORMS Journal Operations Research. He has served as Spokesperson of the DFG Research Training Group "Advanced Optimization in a Networked Economy" (AdONE), and was Head of the Operations and Supply Chain Management Department at the TUM School of Management and of the Operations Research & Statistics Group at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
