Chair of Operations Management

We are welcoming you at the Chair of Operations Management, led by Prof. Dr. Rainer Kolisch. The teaching and research at the chair is centering on the application of Operations Research methods for analyzing and optimizing Operations Management problems. Current research topics are Scheduling, Routing, Health Care Operations, Airport Operations, Project Scheduling and Management, as well as Make-to-Order and Engineer-to-Order Operations.

The February-edition of the ISE-Magazine features recent research results of Prof. Kolisch and co-authors, which has appeared in IISE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering (Volume 12, No. 4). In the paper Prof. Kolisch (TUM), Prof. Uzsoy (North Carolina State University), and Paul Sutterer

present a data-driven approach to derive the time-dependent value of hospital resources using an optimization model to admit and dynamically schedule patients. They used a large data set of patients treated over one year in a hospital to derive the value of resources under different demand and resource scenarios, and found that the model yields resource valuations that are qualitatively different from conventional approaches.
