Santiago Nieto-Isaza wins second INFORMS fORged-by-Machines contest 2020 sponsored by Amazon Web Services and University of Southern California (USC) Data-Driven Decision Lab

News, all, award |

Doctoral students from all over the world participated in a contest where a challenging network design problem for a last-mile delivery system with uncertain demands and multiple decision criteria was to be solved. In cooperation with Emanuel Herrmann, Santiago Nieto-Isaza won this data-driven challenge with Operations Research and Machine Learning algorithms adapted from his ongoing PhD project on last mile delivery at the chair of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The students had three weeks to develop their algorithms, test them on a given data-set and send their results, which were evaluated by leading Operations Research professors and the Principal Research Scientist of Amazon. Three finalists presented their solutions in a digital format at the INFORMS annual meeting on November 8, 2020.
