The chair members Caroline Spieckermann and Moritz Rettinger had the chance to present their research at the EURO 2024 conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Caroline Spieckermann talked about her research project "Explorable Uncertainty in Routing", co-authored by Christoph Kerscher and Stefan Minner. In this project, they analyze the impact of querying current travel times to reduce the uncertainty in vehicle routing problems, and the resulting trade-off between query costs and solution quality.
Moritz Rettinger presented his research project "Understand Your Decision Rather than Your Model: Towards Explainable Deep Learning Approaches for Sustainable Commodity Procurement", co-authored by Stefan Minner. This project develops a prescriptive deep-learning approach to model hedging decisions. It further employs explainable artificial intelligence to understand the underlying logic of such decisions.
