Patrick Helm, together with master's student Karl Kompatscher and supervisor Prof. Stefan Minner, won the research challenge "Production-Inventory Planning at ASML". The challenge was posed by researchers from Technical University Eindhoven in cooperation with ASML and involved developing a competitive inventory control policy for a complex capacitated supply network. As a finalist, he presented the developed methodology and results at the International Society of Inventory Research Summer School 2025 in Eindhoven.
The proposed method decreases inventory holding and backordering costs by 12% compared to the best baseline provided by the organizers. Further, it is highly interpretable and thus yields valuable insights on the strategic safety stock placement within the supply network at ASML.
