Dr. Dennis Prak has received a Rubicon grant from The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for his research project “Adaptive Data-Driven Inventory Control for Dynamic Supply Chains” at the Chair of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. After having completed his PhD studies at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands in May 2019, during which he already visited our chair, he is now among the 16 awardees out of 61 applicants for the current Rubicon round. His proposal was ranked number one of all submissions to the Social Sciences and Humanities Domain. The grant allows him to conduct postdoctoral research at TUM for two years, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Stefan Minner.
In his research, Dennis Prak studies data-driven demand forecasting and inventory control policies that enable decision making in highly dynamic supply chains. Whereas classical theory is built on long-run optimality and isolates different parts of supply chain decision making, this research project seeks to integrate all available information to learn better policies, especially after structural changes in the supply chain. To achieve this, combinations of innovative machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques are applied.
The Rubicon programme is intended to give young, highly promising researchers the opportunity to gain international research experience. Dennis Prak will join our group from September 1, 2019 onwards. For more information, please refer to his profile page or NWO’s official press release.
