From April to July 2021, Amazon and the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics organized the Amazon Last Mile Routing Research Challenge, open for students and researchers from all over the world. More than 200 participating teams tried to develop innovative data-driven approaches to solve Amazon’s real-life route sequencing problems. The motivation behind this challenge was to reduce the gap between theoretical route planning and real-life route execution as well as to understand and take advantage of drivers’ tacit knowledge. Under the support of Prof. Dr. Stefan Minner, Ha Dao, Konstantin Geier and Bernhard Hilfer, have teamed up to participate in this challenge. Their solution, which leverages a mix of optimization-based and data-driven approaches, achieved the 8th place in the final. Congratulations!
